How do caulk-gun weights differ at the same cartridge size?
Weights differ within cartridge sizes. The 10 oz group varies by up to 0.7 lb; the 29 oz group by 0.4 lb.
Each group's 18:1 gun weighs most. Let the tube maker guide the ratio.

With no preferences selected: Newborn 101 caulk gun is one option to compare.
Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Newborn's manual guns accept either 10 oz or 29 oz cartridges. Set the capacity to the cartridge you will use; choosing 10 oz will exclude the 29 oz guns rather than treating them as a larger substitute.
The maximum-weight control spans tools weighing 1.3 to 2.65 lb. That is tool weight, so it does not describe the weight of a loaded cartridge. This guide compares Newborn's capacity, thrust and weight figures without dispensing sealant through the guns.
Thrust and weight can pull the choice in different directions
Within Newborn's 10 oz options, a gun with a thrust-ratio value of 6 weighs 1.3 lb, while a gun with a ratio value of 18 weighs 2 lb. The ratio filter sets a minimum; the weight filter sets a maximum. Use them together after settling the cartridge format.
Thrust figures do not tell you which gun is suitable for an unspecified material. Follow the sealant maker's dispensing instructions and compare the exact gun and cartridge format before buying; a higher ratio alone says nothing about bead consistency.

What's the difference between smooth, hex and ratchet rods?
They're Newborn's names for the plunger rod. Six guns here use a smooth rod, two a hex rod (111-CB and 125) and four a ratchet rod (188, 215, 307 and 315), with the 307 and 315 in zinc-chromate. Rod type isn't a filter, so read it from the model name; the lightest guns, at 1.3 lb, are the 10:1 smooth-rod 101 and the 6:1 ratchet-rod 188. That's model 250 at 2.0 lb and model 255 at 2.65 lb, beside 2.25 lb for the 6:1 model 215.
Which thrust ratio does my sealant need?
Ask the tube's maker. The ratios shown are Newborn's listed ratings. Newborn's titles put the sizes at 1/10 gallon for 10 oz and 1/4 gallon for 29 oz.
