Cable or point sensor: how do water leak detectors connect?

Two of these ten detectors use Z-Wave. Aeotec Water Sensor 7 has a remote probe; Zooz XS has an unknown sensing layout. Connection does not decide placement.

Detectors alone do not shut off water.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

Place the sensing part where a leak would reach it

Eve Water Guard uses a sensing cable and mains power. Tapo Smart Water Leak Sensor uses contacts on the unit and battery power. Aeotec offers a remote probe, so the sensing point and device body need not occupy the same spot. Decide which physical layout can reach the area you want to monitor.

Detection-layout information is available for 8 products, with 2 unknown. We compared the makers' sensing descriptions without staging leaks. Unknown layouts are left out when you select a detection design rather than inferred from product photos.

Wireless protocol does not replace the hub

Connectivity and power are separate decisions. Battery power does not imply that a hub is unnecessary: Tapo and YoLink need their compatible hubs for app features. Eve's remote-access and Thread needs depend on the Apple home setup described by the maker.

A detector alone does not shut off water. Read the compatibility and remote-alert details for your whole system, and inspect buying options when a link opens an information page. For YoLink's sensing-cable design, keep the sensor body dry; the rope is the part intended to detect water.

Before you buy

Can I choose a sensing cable on batteries?

YoLink Water Leak Sensor 2 combines battery power, YoLink LoRa and a sensing cable. Eve Water Guard uses mains power with Bluetooth / Thread and a cable. Two of these ten detectors use Z-Wave. Aeotec Water Sensor 7 has a remote probe; Zooz XS has an unknown sensing layout. Connection does not decide placement. You can consider Aeotec when you want that probe layout. A cable or probe reaches different locations from contacts on the unit. Detectors alone do not shut off water.

Does battery power mean I need no hub?

Power and connectivity are separate. Some models need a compatible hub or gateway for phone alerts; read the exact remote-alert and placement setup.

Can the detector prevent water damage automatically?

Automatic shutoff needs separately compatible equipment and setup. This comparison cannot establish response time or damage prevention, and Aqara’s detection layout remains unknown.
