Power choice does not settle wheel size

DEWALT's cordless Flathead grinder accepts an advertised maximum wheel diameter of 5 inches, while its corded No-Lock grinder goes to 9 inches. DEWALT's power-source, motor and wheel-size descriptions supply the grinder details, without grinding or cutting trials; those fields leave vibration, braking and handling unmeasured. Decide whether you want a battery-powered tool before choosing the wheel size; corded and cordless options overlap in diameter.

The Flathead uses a brushless motor; the No-Lock uses a brushed motor. Motor descriptions are available for 9 of these 11 grinders. A blank motor field cannot tell you which design is inside.

A wheel must agree with the grinder manual

Maximum wheel diameter spans 4.5 to 9 inches, but diameter alone cannot approve an accessory. You still need the correct guard, accessory type, spindle connection and speed rating. A smaller wheel is not automatically suitable.

Before you buy

Can I fit any wheel smaller than the maximum?

No. The exact model’s manual sets the guard, accessory type, spindle and speed rating a wheel must suit, and a maximum diameter on its own does not approve a particular wheel. Wheels often carry their own speed marking too; if the wheel and the manual disagree, leave that wheel off.

Why is motor type missing for two of the 11?

DEWALT’s pages for the corded D28499X and the cordless DCG412B do not name a motor type, so those two show as unknown when you pick brushed or brushless.

Is a corded or cordless grinder more powerful?

This page cannot say. DEWALT’s headings give wheel size and power source but no output figure. All six cordless models are sold as tool only, so the battery and charger are extra.
