Privacy and passage levers serve different doors
Kwikset's Grapevine, Reminy and Winston levers use the Bed and Bath function; Breton and Halifax use Hall and Closet. Choose the needed locking and release arrangement before the finish or silhouette. A contemporary appearance does not tell you whether the lever supplies privacy locking.
Function information covers 10 handles. The finder separates those functions and the maker's grade labels; it does not measure latch wear or validate emergency release in use. Read the exact handle's release instructions for the door where you will fit it.
The bore drawing matters more than the lever outline
Grapevine gives a cross-bore of 2-1/8 in, while Breton gives 1 in. Those values deserve a comparison with the exact installation drawing before you reuse an existing hole; handle style cannot resolve door-preparation differences.
Read minimum and maximum door thickness, backset and handing together. Reversible handing appears on Breton and Grapevine, but a missing handing value elsewhere is no assurance of reversibility. Adjustable backset wording still needs the model's allowed positions and installation details.
Before you buy
What's the difference between passage and privacy levers?
Passage levers, Kwikset's Hall/Closet function, latch the door without locking it. The privacy versions here, sold for Bed/Bath as Safe Lock models, lock from the inside. All seven contemporary designs are passage levers, so Contemporary with Bed and Bath returns nothing. Not in this Kwikset set. Its three Bed/Bath privacy levers, the Grapevine, Reminy and Winston, are all Traditional. All three privacy levers carry Grade 3, as do four passage models; the remaining passage models are labeled AAA (Halifax) or AAA (Grade 2) (Haylen and Hildon). These are interior passage and privacy models.
Will a lever fit my door's existing holes?
Every lever here takes doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 in thick, and all but the Haylen say they're reversible for either hand. Kwikset's pages give a 1 in cross bore for six passage levers and 2-1/8 in for the privacy three, a gap big enough that they may be naming different holes, and backset is stated only as Adjustable on four. Hold the installation template to your door before you drill.
Can I compare AAA and numbered grades?
Not directly. Kwikset prints Grade 3, AAA and AAA (Grade 2) in the same ANSI Grade field, and the finder keeps those labels as written, so choosing Grade 3 returns passage and privacy levers alike.
