10 models to compare

Does center finding make a stud finder heavier?

Yes. The five center-and-edge Zircon models that give a weight run 5.6 oz to 8.13 oz without the battery; the four edge-only models run 2.4 oz to 4.6 oz.

A reading never proves a wall is clear. Follow model instructions before drilling.

How the comparison works

Your choices are compared with each model’s product details. A missing or conflicting value stays unknown and cannot satisfy a choice you select. The starting order helps you browse; it does not rate real-world performance.

Source dates appear with each link below. A source date does not confirm today's price or stock.

An edge marker and a center marker answer different questions

Zircon's StudSensor locates edges and has a maker-rated stud depth of 0.75 in. The center-and-edge models have a 1.5 in stud-depth rating. Choose the locating mode you want to read, then compare that rating with the wall material allowed by the model's instructions.

The depth selector matches values exactly; it is not a minimum-depth slider. These figures refer to stud sensing, not metal detection or AC scan depth. Zircon's mode descriptions and ratings are the basis here; there were no wall-drilling checks.

Weight cannot tell you whether a wall is safe to drill

The basic StudSensor weighs 2.4 oz without its battery; the MultiScanner models with weight data reach 8.13 oz. Battery-free weights are available for 9 products, so a missing SuperScan weight should stay unknown rather than borrowing a sibling model's figure.

Weight can help you compare what you will hold, but it says nothing about detection certainty. Follow the model's instructions for your wall before drilling. A wall may contain wiring despite an AC warning feature; that feature is no certification that wiring is absent.

Before you buy

Is the depth rating what I'll see through my wall?

It's Zircon's rating, and wall material, moisture and texture can change what a scanner picks up. The StudSensor, HD25 and HD35 stop at a 0.75 in StudScan rating, while the edge-only HD55 carries DeepScan at a lower weight than any center-finding model that gives one. An AC warning feature doesn't certify a wall is free of live wiring, so treat any reading you get as a starting point and follow the manual before you drill.

Why is the SuperScan M4's weight missing?

Zircon's M4 page doesn't give one, and it isn't borrowed from the SuperScan M3 (8 oz). If you pick any weight setting, the M4 drops out of the results.

Are magnetic stud finders included?

No, every model here is a Zircon scanner that takes a 9V alkaline battery; magnetic-only finders and full wall-imaging systems aren't covered. Yes. The five center-and-edge Zircon models that give a weight run 5.6 oz to 8.13 oz without the battery; the four edge-only models run 2.4 oz to 4.6 oz. Center finding also comes with a 1.5 in DeepScan rating. A reading never proves a wall is clear, so follow the model's instructions before you drill.
